The surface of the sensor is gold-plated and protected against limescale deposits etc. However, after a certain time, depending on the quality of the available water, the surface should be cleaned with a normal detergent. In no case with sandpaper or sand as this may damage the surface. The sensor is slightly temperature-sensitive.
